Losing players to schools such as Naparima Boys and Presentation College. Many boys transfer out because St. Benedicts SBC teams are very strong and good players may not make the cut, so they look to other avenues to get first team football.
Lack of finance this point encompasses many setbacks for SBC with regards to the football program. The school firstly does not have large fundraising events to bring in money. Therefore, a heavy reliance falls on the school board, ministry and sponsorship. Allocation though must be made for other areas apart from just the football. So, the school is unable pay top coaches, access proper equipment, provide lunches, pay for maxi and even purchase uniform and gear for less fortunate players. In 2010 the school ground was closed due to safety concerns at the ground. With no money to allocate to such a massive project the ground is still unsafe to play at and the Secondary School Football League has forced SBC to fine a new home ground.
The past student association is non existent so help from alumnus is not an area where the school can look for help to remedy the issues being faced.
There is also little or no parental support since many boys playing at the school come from single parent households. Parent is normally busy working and is unable to support the student and by extension the school.
Declining support from the staff as new principals who have taken over in the past years do not see the importance of sport in developing young minds. Many times, these principals push academics and cut the already limited training time to accommodate studies.
