Upon this use of sport to improve academic standards (SBC) became the secondary school football kings of Trinidad and Tobago ruling this level through the late 60s, 80s, 90s and then recently from 2014 to 2015. So, sit back and enjoy the illustrious footballing history of (SBC).
From the inception (SBC) was a force within the secondary school football from 1964 when the playing field was installed, and the school had access to practice and now play football competitive, the dominance started. From 1964 to 1968 names such as Warren Archibald, Leroy De Leon, Jan Steadman, Steve David, Dick Furlonge, Wilfred Cave, and Bobby Sookram were all students of the school and they won their first national title in 1964. In the late 1960s there were as many as nine national players on the (SBC) football team this was not something that was normal. Nine players from a single school being at a national athletic level this was historic. (School Magazine 2000)
During the 1980s (SBC) had serious competition to win the national intercol and south intercol titles each year from San Fernando Technical Institute (Tech) but in 1987 when (Tech) was closed (SBC) took over for an entire decade wining everything from south titles, national titles and even league titles. Ivan Sampson, Wesley Webb and Leonson Lewis were all players who came up around this time and kept the winning streak intact.
The times of championships though were coming to an end as of the late 90s early 2000s emerged (SBC) fiercest rivalries Princes Town Secondary but (SBC) began to suffer as players began leaving to play for schools like Naparima Boys and Presentation College. This as players forsake the limited resources in terms of scholarships and sponsorships at (SBC) for the more beneficial opportunities being provided by these other schools. This created a 16-year title drought.
In 2012 Dexter Cyprus was appointed head coach and immediately he was facing a relegation battle with (SBC) which they ended up avoiding therefore they stayed in the Premier League. He began re-structuring from then on and in 2014 his hard work paid off when (SBC) won the south intercol title breaking their drought under then captain and former national player Taryll Coutou. But this was short lived as due to problems internally Cyprus was removed as head coach two seasons later and since then we wait to see when a next title will come home to the former kings of school football.
